You may notice things are a little different around here. We’ve recently updated our website to make it easier to use, and provide information a little better. Our new navigation bar is at the top of the page, and includes five major site areas that may have changed a bit from the previous version.

    The news page is where you are right now, and will continue to hold news and recent happenings with the cFree Wireless Network.
  • Coverage Areas
    This section will hold the most up to date maps of the areas where you can get access to the cFree wireless network.
  • Help
    Help will be the place you go to find out information on how to connect to the cFree Wireless Network. We plan to expand this are as support questions come up to make it easier to troubleshoot any problems you might have getting onto the network.
  • About
    This area tells a little bit about the behind-the-scenes work, and history of the cFree Wireless Network.
  • Contact
    The contact page provides a place for you to get ahold of us via our contact form for you to send questions and comments, or our mailing address.

cFree Wireless Network Expands to Coralville’s Iowa River Landing Area

Announcing the expansion of free wireless network connectivity to the Iowa River Landing District in Coralville. The wireless connectivity is a joint collaboration between the City of Coralville and the Corridor Free Wireless Network, sponsored by Iowa.com. The combination of cFree wireless internet access outdoors, along with Marriott’s free internet access indoors, has created the first full service Marriott to offer free internet in the nation. cFree also provides free wireless access to other public locations in the area such as S.T. Morrison Park & Northridge Pavilion in Coralville, downtown Iowa City and downtown Cedar Rapids.

Wireless coverage maps of the new expansion will be available soon.

Group to Celebrate cFree Launch at Tuesday Event

The board of directors of the Corridor Free Wireless Network, cFree, will hold a launch event to celebrate the success of the three-city urban free wireless network that is up and running in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Coralville. The event will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at Noon at the S.T. Morrison Park in Coralville, across from Coralville City Hall.

Media and the public are invited to attend this free event. Project volunteers and sponsors will hold a short press conference followed by a celebratory wire-cutting. Free lunch will be served to all attending courtesy of Haight’s Hawkeye Meat Market and the City of Coralville, and individuals will have the opportunity to try out the network.

cFree Members Named to Corridor’s List of 40 Under 40

40 under 40cFree Wireless Network Board members Rob Pilaszewski, Jamie Licko, Andy Stoll, & Tyler Olsen were all named to The Corridor Business Journal’s Annual 40 Under 40 List honoring individuals under 40 in the Corridor that have made significant impact in their professional work and in their communities. The winners were recognized as much for what they do outside of the office as for what they do to earn a living. Many of those selected are part of groups like Access Iowa or the James Gang that have the specific purpose of trying to make the Corridor a better place for young people. They volunteer, serve on boards and give of their time in numerous ways.

We are looking for talented creative people to help with the marketing and the creating of a large scale launch event for the cFree Wireless Network. We will be meeting this Thursday July 14th to share and discuss ideas. Please join us! All ages and experiences welcome.

About cFree: The Corridor Free Wireless Network, cFree, is a bold community project created to give free access to the internet via wireless technologies in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Coralville in a number of key public spaces. The project is a community driven and community funded not for profit venture led by a joint endeavor of the Cedar Rapids Downtown District and The James Gang, a community building organization based in Iowa City.
